A Detox Diet (also called a cleansing diet) will remove toxins and poisons from your body.  The idea of a good detox diet is to eat pure and natural foods that will aid the function of the kidneys, colon, lungs, skin and liver.  The goal is to simultaneously improve the functions of our body’s natural detoxification organs while reducing unhealthy substances from our diet.  The holistic effects of a healthy diet will also trickle down to all other aspects of our lives.

Detox diets are controversial because many feel that many detox diets are not medically proven to be effective in curing illness.  However, the purpose of a detox diet is not to cure illness.  It is to improve our body’s natural functions and reduce external negative factors.  In this sense, the effectiveness of detoxification cannot be undermined.  Below is a list of popular detox diets and our review:

Detoxifying Your Body

Most detox programs will promote the following:

  • Organic food and drink (no pesticides or fungicides).
  • Whole unprocessed foods (grains, nuts, seeds, etc).
  • High mix of vegetables and fruit.
  • 8 cups (8ounce) of water or liquids a day.
  • Herbs and Natural remedies for cleansing the body.

Most detox programs will avoid the following:

  • Toxins like Alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.
  • Processed and refined foods (indigestible chemicals that stay in our bodies)
  • Certain supplements during the detox phase.
